PR, Reputation & Influence (PRI)

Make the story, evidence and execution work together.

A communications campaign needs a clear purpose, a story that matters to its audience and credible evidence to support it. The way it's delivered matters just as much.

PR, Reputation & Influence (PRI) is a method I use to develop new communications programmes, assess campaigns before launch and improve work that's already under way.

It helps connect what an organisation wants to achieve with what it can credibly communicate and how that communication reaches the intended audience.

01

When is PRI useful?

You might be developing a PR campaign, preparing a product launch or establishing a thought-leadership programme.

Perhaps your team or agency has already prepared a campaign and you want an independent assessment before committing the budget.

You may also have an established communications programme that generates activity but isn't delivering the results you expected.

PRI helps examine the approach, identify what needs attention and develop practical improvements.

02

Three ways to use PRI

01 · Build

Develop a communications programme with a clear purpose.

I use PRI to connect your objectives with audience needs, positioning, evidence and the communication activities required to reach people.

The work can support launches, PR campaigns, executive communications and longer-term programmes.

The aim is to develop an approach that fits the objective, the organisation's capabilities and the audiences involved.

02 · Fix

Review a campaign before launch or improve one that's already running.

A campaign can look convincing in a presentation and still have weaknesses that become apparent once it reaches the audience.

The story may lack relevance outside the organisation, an important claim may need stronger evidence or the planned activities may be poorly suited to the intended audience.

I examine the campaign's objectives, positioning, supporting evidence, messages and execution plan to identify what should be kept, strengthened or reconsidered.

For an existing programme, I also compare the intended results with the available evidence of what's happening.

The outcome is a focused set of improvements rather than an automatic recommendation to start again.

03 · Reinforce

Strengthen the value of communication that's already working.

A successful announcement or campaign can create opportunities for further media engagement, expert commentary and reputation development.

PRI helps examine what audiences are learning about the organisation, whether the evidence supports those associations and how future communications can build on them.

The findings inform decisions about what to continue, develop or change.

03

What does the work involve?

I start with your objective and the material already available.

For a new programme, I help develop the positioning, supporting evidence, messages and communications approach.

For a campaign review, I examine the proposed or existing work, test its assumptions against the available evidence and identify improvements worth making.

Depending on the assignment, I can also help develop materials, prepare spokespeople, plan media activity and support implementation.

The scope follows the task. A single campaign review doesn't require the same level of work as developing an international PR programme.

04

What will you receive?

Campaign or Launch Review

An independent assessment of a planned or existing campaign, identifying strengths, gaps and recommended changes.

This can include a review of the central story, supporting claims, media angles, target audiences and execution plan.

Communications Programme Development

A strategy or campaign plan with clear objectives, positioning, key messages, supporting evidence and an approach for reaching the intended audience.

Implementation and Improvement

Depending on the assignment, I can also develop communication materials, prepare executive briefings, support media outreach and help refine campaigns using the results and feedback available.

We agree on the deliverables and responsibilities before starting.

05

An example from practice

Making a global announcement relevant to Irish media

For the opening of Quest Software's AI centre in Cork, I worked with colleagues to develop media angles that would make the global announcement relevant to Irish journalists.

My work also included preparing and coordinating the press release with IDA Ireland's communications team, organising executive interviews and developing supporting briefing materials.

The project illustrates how the central story, supporting evidence, spokesperson preparation and media approach come together in a real launch.

This project predates the current PRI methodology but illustrates the professional experience behind its development.

06

A note on evidence and credibility

Communication works within the limits of what an organisation can genuinely support.

If a campaign makes promises that the product, service or organisation cannot fulfil, better messaging won't resolve the underlying problem.

PRI helps identify these limits before they become bigger communications issues and develop an approach grounded in credible evidence.

07

Let's look at what you're planning.

Whether you're developing a new campaign, reviewing one before launch or improving an existing communications programme, I can help assess the approach and work on the changes needed.
